The classic and lighthearted sculptures of George Carruth and his team of artisans are treasured by collectors around the world. For over 35 years, Carruth Studio has helped individuals express their love and friendship on occasions that are best remembered with a special piece of art.

COMPANY HISTORY

1980

Deborah Carruth recognizes the beauty and mass appeal of stone carvings her husband, George, creates in his spare time while he was employed as a sculptor for American Greetings. Deb enters a couple of George’s sculptures at a local art show where they receive awards after which George begins creating more designs.

1983

Carruth Studio is established. George leaves his full-time position to exhibit and sell his one-of-a-kind garden stones at art shows across the country.

1985

David Kay Garden & Gift Catalog buyer encourages George to cast his designs making Carruth’s art available to many at a modest price. The catalog cover features Carruth Studio’s first casting, the Cat Birdbath (still available today).

1995

Media attention brings high profile commissions such as the White House Christmas tree ornament and several pieces for the National Cathedral in Washington D.C.

1996

Garden Smiles by Carruth opens in Waterville Ohio. The garden gift shop offers the entire line of Carruth products and the work of other artists.

2001

PBS produces a documentary of George Carruth’s career.

2008

Along with his daughter, Libby, George publishes their third children’s book, If I were a Dinosaur.

2018

George Carruth is invited by world famous, Tony Packo’s Restaurant to sign a hot dog bun, an honorary tradition that began in 1972. George joins a long list of celebrities including United States presidents, athletes, musicians, actors and astronauts who have been asked to sign a bun for display at the restaurant locations.

2019

Tony Packo’s Restaurants commissions Carruth Studio to create the Packo’s Pickle to help promote the brand and their line of food products.

2020

Society of the Honor Guard, Tomb of The Unknown Soldier commissions Carruth Studio to create the marker for the Never Forget Garden initiative in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier.      

2021

Garden Smiles by Carruth moves to a new, custom designed space and is re-branded Carruth Gift & Gallery. The new store location shares the same property as Carruth Studio offering customers more parking, a broader selection and personal customer service.

TODAY

Carruth Studio continues to create unique sculptures designed to provide years of enjoyment. Our favorite piece is the one that brings a smile to whomever is enjoying it at the moment.
